About Skagen Kunsthus
Origin and Development
The building was originally constructed as a judge’s residence in 1893 and later served as the mayor’s residence. In 1909, it was remodeled based on designs by Ulrik Plesner, giving it its current appearance.
In 2024/25, this historic building was transformed into Skagen Kunsthus, where history meets the present. Our art house is more than just an exhibition space — it is a bridge between tradition and modern and contemporary art. Here, you can find inspiration in works by artists such as Asger Jorn, Per Kirkeby, John Kørner, Tal R, Andy Warhol, and Picasso.
Mission & Core Values
Skagen Kunsthus aims to introduce the modern art scene in Skagen to both locals and visitors, offering a complementary perspective to Skagen’s historic art through high-quality contemporary works.
We believe that art can change perspectives, challenge norms, and create new connections. Contemporary art has the power to tell stories about humanity’s place in the world — a natural and beautiful continuation of the work of the old Skagen painters.
At Skagen Kunsthus, you can explore rotating exhibitions in our bright and spacious galleries. Møller’s Garden is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Skagen, offering a quiet space to let your thoughts wander. In the Kiosque, you’ll find souvenirs and refreshments — the perfect way to unwind and reflect on your art experience.
Vision and Future
In short, we dream of Skagen Kunsthus helping to once again attract artists to the city. After all, the light is still the same as it was back then!
Welcome to Skagen Kunsthus – where past and present meet through art.
