Karel Appel (1921-2006) was a Dutch painter, sculptor, and co-founder of the COBRA movement. His works are characterized by spontaneous and expressive use of color and form, often featuring figurative elements reminiscent of childlike drawings.

He worked across a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, and mural art. Appel’s work has been exhibited globally, and he has received numerous awards, including UNESCO’s prize for visual arts, cementing his status as an important figure in post-war art.
